Field Trip Instructions

Whether you are studying the Spanish Mission period or the Texas Revolution, the Alamo is the perfect place for students to learn more about Texas history. Use this guide to plan a meaningful, educational trip to the Alamo for your students.

STEP 1: Make a Reservation

Please complete our online reservation form or call the Alamo at least two weeks prior to your scheduled trip. This will ensure that adequate staff is on hand to assist you. Please be prepared to provide the name of your school, number of students, and the date of your visit. Contact the School Group Coordinator at (210) 225-1391 ext. 145.

Please note that the busiest season for school visits is March – May. Visiting during other months of the year may make your experience a better one.

STEP 2: Plan your trip

Getting Here

The Alamo is located at 300 Alamo Plaza in downtown San Antonio, Texas.

To reach the Alamo from U.S. 281/Interstate 37 southbound, exit at Houston Street, turn right, and proceed three blocks to Avenue E, turn left and continue to the intersection of Houston and Alamo Plaza.

From Interstate 37 northbound, exit at Commerce Street, turn left on Commerce and proceed ten blocks to Alamo Plaza, turn right and continue on one and one half blocks. Parking is available at several pay lots in the vicinity of the Alamo.


Buses may unload their passengers at the Houston Street gate or the Crockett Street gate, however, buses are not allowed to park in these areas.

School and Tour Bus Short-Term Parking Facilities are available nearby. Parking Lot A at the Alamodome is free to buses when there is not a scheduled event. Please call Dome Security at (210) 207-3680 to make a reservation.

Guided Tour Options

For a deeper educational experience, the Alamo recommends guided tours for students. The tours below are offered at a discounted rate to school groups. Please contact our School Group Coordinator at 210-225-1391 ext. 145 to schedule.


School groups may eat lunch on Alamo Hall Patio when not in use. Please note that lunch space is very limited and no tables are provided. Groups are responsible for their own ice chests, lunch bags, etc. Please do not pull or carry large ice chests through the buildings.

STEP 3: Arrival

Check in with the Alamo School Group Coordinator in front of the Alamo Church upon arrival. You can recognize our staff in their red Alamo polo shirts.

Let the coordinator know the name of your group and any tours you have registered for. The School Group Coordinator will provide more information about history talks, information on special events, and where to meet your tour guide.

Teachers/chaperones will be given stickers so that our staff can more easily identify groups. Groups that have registered will be given immediate access into the church without standing in line.
